WB 20.2.17

This week, the children have enjoyed starting our new geography topic 'jungles and deserts', as well as our science topic, 'the growth of plants'. It has also been 'Feeling Good Week' in school. The children got to enjoy a drumming assembly on Monday and then got to have a go themselves in a workshop on Tuesday. The children thoroughly enjoyed it and had wonderful fun playing and learning together. We have been doing lots of well-being activities throughout the week and the children continue to enjoy our CuesEd visitors on Friday mornings. We created a 'well-being rap' on Friday which you may want to ask them to perform to you!

Over the next couple of weeks the children will be continuing to learn the difference between jungles and deserts and will also be performing several experiments that investigate how plants grow. In English, we are looking at a non-fiction e-book all about 'Where we live', that explores what it is like living in different countries. In maths we are going to be revisiting telling the time and measurement so any help you can do on this at home would be greatly appreciated.

A quick thank you to all those who have already returned the reply slips for the animal encounter day!

Maya Food Tasting

We have had a lovely afternoon tasting foods that the Ancient Maya would have eaten.  We tried tortillas, tomatoes, avocados, sweetcorn, Bitter chocolate and Cadbury's Chocolate Buttons. Definitely avocados and tomatoes were not their favourite and the bitter chocolate got the thumbs down!

However the tortillas, sweetcorn and Cadbury's chocolate were a great success!  The children shared the food samples and had a lovely time in their group, giving their opinions.  We also learned today about Maya gods and the children invented some fantastic gods that the Maya would have worshipped.
